Looking Back at July 2018

I decided to participate in Camp NanoWrimo last month, and while I’ve done it before, this time I took a different approach. One of the nice things about Camp is that you can set your own writing goal. Which is great, unless you’re not quite sure what you’re doing.

Normally I set a goal of 1,000 words per day, and then I try to write a little bit more than that so I have a buffer. This year, I didn’t have a story idea, and I’ve never finished any story in 31,000 words anyways, so I decided to set a time goal. I would start a good habit and dedicate 30 minutes of each day to writing. Continue reading

November 2017 Recap

It’s hard to believe, but this was my seventh year participating in NanoWrimo. It boggles my mind a little bit, that it’s been that long. It seems like just yesterday I was taking the plunge for the first time, nervous and scared, but excited to finally do it as well. My friends had been doing it for a few year by then, and I wanted to do it too. I was afraid of the time commitment, but that year I made a promise to myself that I would take on the challenge. [Insert Great Title Here]

One thing I’m really terrible at is naming things. It doesn’t matter if it’s a blog post, a story, a character, or even a pet. It’s just terrible. I thought I was doing okay, at least as far as blog titles go, until the last one. Yes, some of the previous ones had been a little repetitive with the same structure and different words, but it was okay. Until my last post, when I was reviewing my blog and realized that the past two posts had pretty much the exact same title. I thought about changing it, but I just didn’t know what to change it to.

It’s something I’ve always struggled with, always wished I was better at. Continue reading

Fall Festivals

As fall approaches, so does festival and fair season! It seems like for the next two months, there’s an endless amount of fairs to go to. There’s pretty much at least one each weekend, and though I know I’m not going to be able to go to every one, I’d like to go to a lot.

I ended up going to my first festival of the season this weekend, which was a local book festival. Continue reading

Lost in the Details

I’m a very detail-oriented person, and typically it’s a good thing. But lately, I’ve realized it’s been hindering me in my writing.

I’ve been working on editing a manuscript of mine. I haven’t done a lot of editing before, but it’s been something I’ve been working on for a while now. I have different big picture or narrative changes I want to make, and then of course there’s the little things. I’ve been tackling the editing process by going line by line, reading over everything.  Continue reading
